Male's first five star hotel, Barceló Nasandhura, has been officially opened today.

In addition to being the first five star hotel in the Male' area, it is also the largest.

Barceló Nasandhura's social media pages announced its official opening today.

The hotel is located where the old Nasandhura Palace used to stand.

The hotel, development of which cost about USD 90 million, has 126 rooms and 118 serviced apartments. The apartments will also be leased for short stay.

The hotel has four restaurants and comes equipped with a gymnasium, spa, a 1034sqft conference centre and swimming pool.

Barceló Nasandhura is managed by Spain's hotel chain Barceló. Barceló operates hotels across the world, including in Europe, Thailand and UAE. This is the second property they are managing in the Maldives, with the first being Barceló Whale Lagoon Maldives resort in ADh atoll.

The land to develop this hotel was granted to NPH in 2015 during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
