The organizing team behind Baani, a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest number of people snorkeling simultaneously, has completed a tour of all inhabited islands in Baa Atoll to recruit participants for the event.

The record-breaking event, scheduled for 4 October at Angafaru Bay, is being organized by the Baa Atoll Council in collaboration with Free Dive Maldives.

The initiative aims to promote tourism in the atoll and raise awareness of environmental damage to lagoons and marine ecosystems.

Baani team met with island councils, local associations, agencies, and guesthouse operators to encourage participation and support. The event is open to both locals and tourists, with guesthouses across the atoll offering access to visitors who wish to take part.

President of Free Dive Maldives, Fahad Faiz, said the outreach efforts were warmly received across the islands.

“This is a unique opportunity to showcase Baa Atoll’s natural beauty while also advocating for the protection of our marine environment,” he said.

The team has now begun engaging with resorts in Baa Atoll to further boost participation.

Organizers hope that the record attempt will not only put Baa Atoll on the global map but also serve as a platform for promoting local tourism and sustainable marine conservation.
