Maldivian, the national airline has stopped issuing tickets at its offices in Addu City and Laamu atoll Kadhdhoo, due to a decline in demand for over the counter purchases.

Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said most passengers now book tickets online or through Maldivian agents, reducing the need for in-person visits for booking.

“There is no longer a demand to visit the office to buy tickets,” Iyas said.

While ticket issuance has been suspended, the airline’s offices in Addu and Kadhdhoo will continue to offer other services.

Passengers can still purchase tickets through Maldivian’s website, mobile app, Viber, email, and call centre.

Maldivian operates the country’s most extensive domestic flight network, serving 17 destinations across atolls. The airline also operates international flights to three cities in China, three in India, and one in Malaysia.

Its current fleet includes 25 aircraft, among them five ATRs and 11 seaplanes dedicated to domestic routes.
