The first round of Ooredoo Mas Race is being held in K. Huraa this afternoon.
The Ooredoo Mas Race, being held in collaboration with Fisheries Ministry, commenced at 2pm today with 20 teams participating.
Ooredoo said that the preparations are in place and this year's Mas Race will prove to be another successful and joyous experience.
In addition to Huraa, Ooredoo has announced that this year's Ooredoo Mas Race will be held in Sh. Funadhoo. Mas Race in Funadhoo will be held next Friday.
Teams of 12, including a captain can sign up for the event. First, second and third place winners will be selected from each island.
The champion from each of the two islands will receive a cash prize of MVR 25,000. The runner-up team will take home MVR 10,000, while the second runner-up will be presented MVR 5000.
The best male and female fisherperson will also be given a special prize, Ooredoo said.
Each island will see a maximum of 16 teams competing. If more than 16 teams applied, then the competing teams would be selected through a draw, with the teams that fail to get selected receiving a full refund of the registration fee.
