Maldives top 5 source markets surpass 100,000 arrivals

The latest tourism statistics reveal that the top 5 countries with the highest number of tourists visiting the Maldives have surpassed the 100,000 mark.

Weekly statistics show that Germany is the latest country to be added to the list on Wednesday.

Compared to last year, there is an increase of 6.9 percent of German tourists, with a total of 101,081 tourists who have arrived in Maldives so far.

The other source markets surpassing 100,000 arrivals are China, Russia, UK and Italy, with China at the top with 231,337 tourists.

Statistics up to Wednesday show that a total of 1,468,740 tourists have visited Maldives, a 9.3 percent increase from last year. 

Daily tourist numbers have seen a rise within the last three months, with a daily average of 6,440 tourists visiting Maldives.

The government aims to break last year's first time record of 2 million tourist arrivals.

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) is working towards achieving the 2.3 million tourists mark by the end of this year.
