Flydubai, the UAE's budget airline, has started receiving services from the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA).
To mark the start of services for Flydubai from VIA's Terminal 1, or the new terminal, the airline's first flight was given a water salute.
The airline's check-in counter in the new terminal was officially opened, and services for passengers traveling on the flight began today.

In preparation for the peak Western winter tourist season, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been accelerating the process of transitioning services for airlines traveling to the Maldives to the new terminal.
With the addition of Flydubai, Terminal 1 is currently providing services to a total of 17 airlines.
