Statistics from the Tourism Ministry show that the tourist arrival record set last year has already been broken by December 10 this year.
Last year Maldives welcomed 2,046,615 tourists, marking the first time the country has recorded over 2 million tourist arrivals.
However, ministry figures show that as of last Wednesday, December 10, 2,080,134 tourist arrivals have been recorded this year, already breaking last year's record.
The government initially aimed to reach 2.3 million tourist arrivals in 2025.
However, in the proposed budget for 2026, this target has been lowered to 2.2 million tourist arrivals.
In the first nine days of December, an average of 6,453 tourist arrivals per day was recorded.
If the average is maintained in the remaining 22 days of the year, the 2.2 million tourist arrivals target can be easily reached.
This year, too, the leading source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives is China. As of now, 318,032 Chinese tourists have visited Maldives this year. China is followed by Russia, with 260,416 tourists. UK comes third with 186,762 tourist arrivals.
