Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has launched its RTL bus service in Raa atoll Dhuvaafaru yesterday.
The service was officially inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the island for this year’s official Fishermen’s Day celebrations.
According to MTCC, buses will operate from 6 am to 3.30 pm on weekdays, while weekend services will run from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Passengers can pay fares using Visa and MasterCard, as well as through QR-based ticketing, the company said.
MTCC said school students, senior citizens aged 65 and above, and people with special needs registered with the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) will be exempted from bus fares.
When designing the Dhuvaafaru bus route, priority was given to key locations including schools, beach areas, government offices, industrial zones, the health centre and ferry terminals.
Details of the bus routes and schedules will be available on MTCC’s website and mobile application, the company said.
“As the largest transportation service provider in the Maldives, our aim is to continue providing affordable and convenient sea and road transport services to the public,” MTCC said in a statement.
