The record for the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives in a single day has been broken for the second time within a week. After setting a new record with 10,253 tourists on the first of this month, that record was surpassed yesterday.

Specifically, 10,462 tourists arrived in the Maldives yesterday. This marks the third time within the past week that more than 10,000 tourists have visited the Maldives within a 24-hour period; 10,056 tourists also arrived in the Maldives last Saturday.

The number of tourists who arrived in the Maldives during the first week of this month is eight percent higher compared to the first week of February last year.

Furthermore, 295,589 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 5.6 percent increase compared to the 279,915 tourists who arrived during the same period last year.

The increase in tourist numbers is attributed to the rise in arrivals from China. Every year, coinciding with the Chinese New Year, the number of tourists from that country increases significantly.

Although Russia was the top source market for tourists to the Maldives last month, China now holds the top spot.

The Maldives has seen record-breaking tourist arrivals over the past two years. In this regard, the government has set a target to increase arrivals to 2.4 million this year, renewing the record of 2.24 million tourists who came to the Maldives last year.
