STO stated today that although the impacts of disruptions to the cooking gas supply are currently being felt, the issue will be fully resolved very soon and gas provision will return to normal.
Due to "disruptions" in the global regional market supply, STO's subsidiary company, Maldives Gas, is currently selling 7kg gas cylinders at discounted rates instead of the usual 10kg cylinders.
STO’s media official, Yousuf Shah, said that in connection with changes to the gas supply, it is standard practice for the two companies importing gas to the Maldives to collaborate and sell gas by "rationing" or "controlling" it.
However, he stated that the issue would be completely resolved next week, and they would resume selling 10kg gas cylinders as before.
"Gas is not running out. We can manage," Shah said. "Since Ramadan is a special month for cooking and dining compared to other months, Maldives Gas is also carrying out the important work necessary to prepare for that month. I want to give the assurance that the work required to provide a convenient service to the citizens will always be done."
