Last year saw MVR 107 million in zakat-al-mal.
As per statistics from Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), this is a five percent increase from the year prior. Zakat-al-mal in 2024 saw the state receive MVR 102 million.
Yearly revenue for the state via zakat on trade goods has been increasing. Zakat-al-mal in 2023 saw the state receive MVR 90 million.
The nisab (minimum threshold) for zakat-al-mal is currently 19,527.90. This change was made in December. These changes are made in line with the market value of gold and silver.
MIRA began accepting zakat-al-mal in 2016, but fitr zakat during Ramadan is still only being accepted by the Islamic Ministry.
