Transport Authority instructs service providers to ensure their customers have been vaccinated against COVID-19. In the announcement made on Saturday, they said if their customers have not been vaccinated, services should be denied for them.

This move was made to encourage more people get fully inoculated. Transport Authority said in order to increase the amount of people getting vaccinated, the guidelines set by Health Protection Agency (HPA) should be implemented when providing service.

Starting Wednesday, air, sea, and land transport service providers should only provide their services to people that have been fully inoculated, Transport Authority said.

HPA aims to guarantee that all 90 percent of eligible Maldivians receive at least one dose of the COVID vaccine before September starts. To motivate more people to get the jab, easier access to services have been allowed for fully vaccinated people while unvaccinated people faces more obstacles.

So far 381,902 people have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine while 301,189 people have received two doses.
