Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) presidential candidate and Malé City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to waive parking violation fines for everyone.
Dr. Muizzu made the remarks while speaking to the residents of Shaviyani atoll Funadhoo. Dr. Muizzu and his campaign team are currently visiting the islands of Shaviyani atoll.
During the opposition's campaign rally, Dr. Muizzu said that the current government initially promised not to impose fines on the public without ensuring sufficient parking spaces. However, he pointed out that the administration has been using parking fines as a source of revenue for the state.
"[They] have been repeatedly imposing parking fines, resulting in thousands of payments. This is unjust, and [they] continue to imposing fines without resolving the problem. Parking fines have become one of the main sources of income for this government," criticized the current administration.
Dr. Muizzu pledged to govern Maldives with fairness, highlighting that the parking fines levied under the current administration was unjust.
“With God’s will, I will waive all parking fines,” Dr. Muizzu said.
At the campaign rally, Dr. Muizzu said that Malé City Council’s plans to develop parking buildings in Malé and Hulhumalé were interrupted by the government. He assured to recommence the plan if elected for presidency, while further promising to end challenges in acquiring garage approval letters for automotives.
