President-elect's Office has assured financial independency to government agencies under Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government.
The office earlier said that during its visits to government bodies and agencies, it discovered several discrepancies and areas that require significant improvement.
At the press conference held to reveal the findings of the President-elect's Office's assessment of state bodies, the transitional spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul highlighted issues of non-cooperation and lack of communication among government bodies. He noted that the lack of cooperation among state agencies hindered the progress of the government's regular operations as well.
Firuzul further notified of instances of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) challenging government agencies and attempts of exacting control over them.
The transitional spokesperson revealed strong presence of political influence in state bodies as well with instances of funds restriction to discourage certain investigations. Lack of job and employment term security is another major issue observed from the assessment, Firuzul added.
"Government bodies have not been mandated to the legally required extent. Despite detailed mandates, the narrow interpretation of their discretion has hindered the efforts and work of these agencies," Firuzul said.
The spokesperson assured the incoming government's vision and objectives to address the issues to eradicate the discrepancies discovered during President-elect's Office's assessment, including the improvement of financial independence among the agencies.
"Th President-elect's vision is to ensure operational improvement of state bodies by increasing their financial independence," Firuzul said.
The incoming government will focus on reducing the state's recurrent costs spent on the rent of government offices and redirect the savings to boost fields related to technical and professional skills.
The Office also discovered some government agencies operated in contradiction to their mandates, which Firuzul said would be resolved through legal reform.
He added the incoming government prioritizes legal rectification to ensure government bodies operated at their best capacity.
"We aim to reduce the issues submitted to the agencies," Firuzul said.
