Man sentenced to 54 years in prison for child sexual abuse

Criminal Court has yesterday convicted a man of child sexual abuse and passed a 54 year prison sentence on him.

The sentence was given to a 51 year old Maldivian man.

He was charged with abusing a position of trust and conflicting sexual abuse on a girl on multiple instances and forcing the child to touch his sexual organ.

The court ruling said that as he has already served three years in prison, he will now be imprisoned for an additional 51 years.

The man was arrested on September 3, 2022 in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

Police sent the case for prosecution on October 18, 2022.
