President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that he is deeply saddened over the deadly terrorist attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir that claimed the lives of several tourists.

In a post on social media platform X, President Muizzu said he was "Deeply saddened and shocked by the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, which has claimed innocent lives and left many injured."

He conveyed condolences to the victims and their families, stating, “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”

President Muizzu said that the government of Maldives remains steadfast in its commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

At least 24 people were killed in the attack, which targeted tourists in the popular mountain resort town of Pahalgam. A senior Indian police official told AFP that it was the deadliest attack in recent history in the Muslim majority region.
