Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that Maldives must prepare for the potential effects a war between India and Pakistan could have on the country.

"A full-blown war between India and Pakistan has begun, with significant consequences for South Asia, the Indian Ocean, and the Maldives," Nasheed wrote in a post on X.

"We must prepare for the potential impact on our security, safety, and economy."

Relations between India and Pakistan have soured over recent days following an attack in Kashmir at a tourist hotspot, which brought the deaths of 26 persons. India has blamed Pakistan for the incident, taking diplomatic measures against the country.

Pakistan, meanwhile, has denied involvement.

Recent days have seen exchanges of fire between the countries, with relations seen to worsen.
