Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) would always strive to ensure workers receive their due and to build a strong economy, the party's chairperson, Fayyaz Ismail, said today.
Sending greetings of Labour Day - which is observed internationally and is also known as May Day - Fayyaz said in a post on X that the day is an opportunity to recall the Maldives' courageous efforts to fight for workers' rights during a dangerous environment.
The former economic minister also said the day serves as an opportunity to become determined to fight injustice at a time when the "government has been proactively restricting the rights," of workers.
Fayyaz said MDP has persistently talked about and advocated for workers rights in the Maldives.
His remarks came ahead of a rally planned by the party to mark the occasion.
MDP, which is the current opposition party, has previously claimed that every individual in Maldives currently experiences poverty, due to the difficulties in accessing basic services such as electricity, medicine and healthcare.
