Four months have passed since the reported sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl on an island in northern Maldives, yet no arrests have been made in connection with the case, raising public concern.

Maldives Police Service said today that the assault took place in January and involved a suspect in a position of responsibility.

The incident occurred in an island located within the North Police Region, which comprises Noonu, Raa, Baa, and Lhaviyani Atolls.

While police have stated that relevant authorities are investigating the case, there has been no arrests even after four months have elapsed, mounting criticism and concern on social media.
