One of the shareholders of Sunland Hotels and a prominent figure in the Maldives tourism industry, Mohamed Nazeer, has passed away while receiving medical treatment in the UK.
Nazeer, who was also a director at Sunland Travels, passed away on last night after a period of illness.
He had played a key role in the country’s tourism sector and had served as the Maldives’ trade ambassador to the UK.
Born in Addu, Nazeer was the brother of former Islamic Affairs Minister Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Baari, and also the brother of the wife of former Supreme Court judge Husnu Suood. He was the second child and eldest son in the family. Several of his brothers are also shareholders in Sunland Group.
Sunland Hotels is among the Maldives’ longest-standing resort operators. The group manages Makunudu Island, Biyadhoo Island Resort, Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, and Coco Palm Bodu Hithi.
