Two therapists arrested for allegedly abusing child seeking therapy

The pair are accused of behavior that could have physically harmed the child. Both have been remanded in custody for 15 days.

Two therapists from Physio Clinic in Hulhumalé have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a child who had visited the clinic for therapy.

Maldives Police Service said that they arrested two Indian nationals including Rajeshwari Sivakumar, 24, and Isha Antonette, 24, under a court warrant in connection with the incident, which took place on May 5.

The pair are accused of behavior that could have physically harmed the child. Both have been remanded in custody for 15 days.

A video of the incident, circulated on social media, shows a clinic employee chasing a child with a pair of scissors while another child sits nearby and another staff member is present in the room. Images posted online also show injuries allegedly inflicted during the incident.

Physio Clinic released a statement confirming that the two employees involved have been dismissed. The clinic stated that the matter was promptly reported to the authorities and that all relevant video footage has been handed over to police.
