1.4 million trees to be planted at Rosewood Ranfaru Resort

A total of 1.4 million trees will be planted at the upcoming Rosewood Ranfaru Resort in Male' atoll as part of the government’s ambitious Five Million Tree Planting Program.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment announced that the initiative was officially launched at the resort by Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, aligning with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to plant five million trees during his administration.

Minister Thoriq visited the Ranfaru at the invitation of the resort, where a signing ceremony was held to formalize the resort's commitment to planting 1.4 million trees on the island.

The ministry noted that, to date, it has received pledges from various entities to plant a total of 5.2 million trees under the tree planting program.

As part of efforts to support this initiative, a 55,000-square-foot modern nursery will also be established in Hulhumale'.

The project, funded through assistance from the Chinese government, has completed its design phase. It will include a laboratory, training rooms, office space, and a greenhouse dedicated to cultivating tree species suitable for Maldivian ecosystems.

According to its website, Rosewood Ranfaru Resort is expected to open in 2027.
