The Government of Sri Lanka has announced the donation of teak plants to Maldives, the Ministry of Environment has said.

The donation was announced by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim during the official launch of the 1.4 million tree planting campaign at the Rosewood Ranfaru Resort, currently under development.

The event marked a key milestone in President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to plant five million trees across the country within his five-year term.

Minister Thoriq stated that the teak plants, donated by Sri Lanka in celebration of World Environment Day, will be distributed to every inhabited island and resort in Maldives. A nationwide tree-planting campaign is scheduled to take place on the occasion.

To support this initiative, the Environment Ministry is partnering with island councils, schools, government-owned companies, and private individuals, many of whom have already signed pledges to contribute to the campaign.
