Under the digitalisation policy, the government's goal is to provide equal services for all, regardless of gender and island, said Homeland Security and Technology Minister Ali Ihusan today.

Ihusan's remarks were made on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. This year's theme is "Gender Equality in Digital Transformation".

In his speech, the minister said women's participation in digital transformation does not equate to giving devices and internet access to them, but empowering them to use digital technology in solving issues they face in education, health, business, agriculture and governance.

“When women are digitally empowered, families, society as a whole, and the entire economy will benefit,” the minister said.

Compared to the global proportion, the number of women involved in this field is not low, he said. However, the role of women in leadership roles and management is still low, she highlighted.

Ihusan said the government's 'Digital First Nation' policy aims to provide services to every citizen of Maldivian regardless of gender and the island they live on.

He also noted that such gaps are small in Maldives, and touched on President Dr Mohammed Muizzu’s policy and importance attached to such change.
