Expat teacher being deported over attempted sexual misconduct

An Indian English teacher working at Baa atoll Goidhoo School is being deported and permanently blacklisted from returning to Maldives, the Ministry of Education has said.

The teacher, identified as Gorisankar PG, was implicated after chatlogs were shared on social media, revealing he had sent messages to other men soliciting sexual favors. The account that published the logs said the matter had also been reported to police.

Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu told Mihaaru News that such conduct is unacceptable, especially from someone in a position of responsibility like a teacher.

He stated that the teacher was immediately barred from attending school once the issue was brought to the ministry's attention.

“The teacher is being blacklisted and deported,” Minister Shafeeu said.

Police have stated that the case was shared with other relevant authorities following the initial report.
