UN Resident Coordinator presents credentials to President Muizzu

United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Maldives, Hao Zhang, presented his credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday.

Hao Zhang was received with a traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession from Republic Square to the President’s Office, accompanied by the Drum and Trumpet Band of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Following the official presentation of credentials, President Muizzu welcomed Zhang to Maldives and highlighted the UN’s longstanding and pivotal role in supporting the country’s key development priorities.

He acknowledged the UN’s contributions in areas such as health, education, and human development, and emphasized the importance of continued partnership in achieving Maldives’ goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2040.

President Muizzu also expressed hope for close collaboration in advancing national initiatives, including the recently ratified generational ban on tobacco products and efforts to strengthen mental health and wellbeing in the country.
