HPA warns of spread of flu, with influenza and Covid cases on the rise

Health Protection Agency has said today that they are getting increasingly high numbers of cases of influenza and Covid across the country.

HPA today shared statistics from the past six months.

HPA said that although there is a higher prevalence of flu, cases of dengue are significantly lower than last year. A total of 675 cases were reported between April 6 and May 17, 2024. The number this year in the same period is at just 86.

The highest number of cases of dengue were reported from Raa, Kaafu, and Alif Alif atolls, HPA said.

Cases reported from April 6 to May 17

- Common cold - 43,882 cases

- Influenza - 254 cases

- Covid 19 - 37 cases

HPA said that at present, the highest number of cases of Covid and influenza are being reported in the Male' area. HPA called on the public to take preventive measures to curb the spread of these diseases.
