Maldives Correctional Service has entered an agreement with Addu City Council for the implementation of sentences other than prison terms.
In a ceremony held at the Addu City Council yesterday, the agreement was signed by Maldives Correctional Services' Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer and Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar.
Corrections said that the agreement entails seeking assistance from the Council for implementation of non-prison sentences as defined in their regulations.
The agreement outlines how convicts can be enrolled in educational or other programs, and providing assistance in enrolling them in programs conducted by Addu City Council or government institutions through them.
Additionally, Addu City Council will seek avenues of how convicts can participate in community services through relevant organizations, and assist in making arrangements for such.
Addu City Council will also provide assistance in rehabilitating and reintegrating convicts in to society.
