Missing Japanese tourist found dead

A Japanese tourist who went missing while diving in Kandoomaa Thila in Kaafu atoll Maafushi has been found dead.

The 26-year-old man was reported missing around 10:00 am on Thursday after failing to resurface during a diving excursion organized by a guesthouse in Maafushi.

Divers from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Male' Area Command and the Coast Guard Second Squadron recovered the body from the lagoon at around 5:17 pm.

He was transported to Maafushi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
