Following the death of a Maldivian youth who had contracted meningococcal disease, Health Protection Agency has completed contact tracing. HPA said today that no further cases of the disease were detected.

A 24 year old Maldivian man died of meningococcal disease complications on June 7. He was diagnosed with the disease following his return to Maldives from Malaysia.

Once the case was reported, HPA conducted contact tracing. Having completed the process, an HPA official confirmed today that none of the patient's contacts have displayed symptoms of the disease, and no further cases of the disease have been found.

HPA said then that they had commenced contact tracing and administered prophylactic medication to prevent infection to high risk contacts, as well as having taken other protective measures.
