PNC launches atoll tour ahead of Local Council Elections

Leadership members of ruling People's National Congress (PNC) have yesterday commenced visits to the atolls in preparation for the Local Council Elections, scheduled to be held next year.

Leadership members of ruling People's National Congress (PNC) have yesterday commenced visits to the atolls in preparation for the Local Council Elections, scheduled to be held next year.

PNC said that during these visits, the leadership will meet with PNC steering committees and members in the islands.

Discussions will include organizing party activities on the islands, and exploring ways to increase participation of general members in said activities.

PNC Deputy Leader Adam Shareef, current Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, visited R. Hulhudhuffaaru yesterday.

The party's leadership also visited N. Velidhoo yesterday, meeting with PNC members on the island.

Today, PNC leadership visited AA. Thoddoo, with plans to travel to islands in HDh. atoll from today onwards.

PNC's parliamentary group has submitted a motion to parliament seeking to bring down the number of elected council members. The party says that this was proposed in the view of bringing down government expenditures, and to streamline council operations.

The Local Council Elections are scheduled for March next year.
