Minister says more than 600 to be hired at hospitals

The Maldivian health sector will receive a boost to their employee count, infrastructure and more in the foreseeable future.

Over 600 employees will be hired to serve in the health sector this year, said Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.

Last Monday, the Health Minister in an interview with Mihaaru News and said that this years initiatives include an increase in the speed the health services provide, along with an increase in medical personnel in Male' and better quality of service in the islands.

Hospitals in islands and health centers alone are to have an increase of 330 medical personnel. There will be an addition of over 300 employees in Male' hospitals, which is to be announced soon, says the Minister.

Technical positions such as nurses make up the majority of the aforementioned numbers.

The Minister says that this year marks a record high employment in the health sector to date.

Minister Nazim said the government is taking steps to improve the structural condition of hospitals and health centres on the islands.

When these projects will be completed, it will resolved the issue of space constraints and ease the difficulties faced in providing medical services, Minister Nazim said.

Currently, 41 projects are underway to improve island infrastructure in Maldives, with the cost estimated to be beyond MVR 1 billion.
