More than 1,400 students memorizing the Quran: Min

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that there are 1,434 students, split into 783 female students and 651 male students, across 20 institutes that are currently pursuing memorization of the Quran.

Various institutes in Maldives have been teaching students memorization of the Quran with the attendance figure going beyond 1,400, said Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

The Minister said that there are 1,434 students across 20 institutes that are currently memorizing the Quran. This figure is split into 783 female students and 651 male students.

National Centre for the Holy Quran has the most amount of students in Male' and Hulhumale' respectively, with the third most being at the Ilm Institute for Islamic Studies, with 127 students attending.

In the inner islands, the Quran institutes at R. Kinolhahu takes the lead with 80 students attending.

There are currently 266 Hafiz (persons who have memorized the Quran) in Maldives, as told via the National Centre for the Holy Quran to Mihaaru in April of this year.

In terms of population, Addu City has the most Hafiz in one place, with 65 residing.

Fuvahmulah comes in second with 61 Hafiz present there.

Lh. Naifaru is third with 10 Hafiz residing at the island, with the majority being school children.
