The National Policy on Migrant Health was officially launched today at a ceremony held at Meeruma, with Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim unveiling the policy.
Developed by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other relevant agencies, the policy aims to reduce the spread of diseases among expatriates living in the Maldives and improve their health across all stages of the migration cycle.
Key goals include establishing a sustainable system to maintain the health of migrant workers, ensuring access to appropriate treatment and services, and reducing barriers to healthcare.
The IOM Development Fund provided both technical and financial support for the development of the policy.
The Health Ministry stated that this initiative supports the broader goal of securing basic health rights for all residents of the Maldives and contributes toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
