Vilufushi fire: Injured boat owner being transferred to Male' for treatment

The owner of the boat that caught fire in Th. Vilufushi earlier this morning, who suffered burn injuries in the incident, is being transferred to Male' for further treatment.

A resident of Vilufushi said that the fire broke out and two fuel vessels docked at the island's harbour was ablaze. They said that two persons, the owner of the boat and an expatriate crew member, had been injured in the fire.

The two were immediately rushed to the Vilufushi Health Centre. However, as he requires further treatment which is not available at the Health Centre, the owner of the boat is being transferred to Male'.

"The owner's condition is not too serious, but as treatment is not available here, he is being sent to Male'," they said.

A member of the Vilufushi Council said that it is believed that the fire was caused by turning on the pump while the petrol tank was full.
