The Elections Commission (EC) has stated 10 individuals have joined the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) within the past six months.
As per the EC's statistics, they have stated that MDP had 52,142 members as of January 2024. Currently, that number sits at 43,755.
Despite the drop in members and a 10-person increase in six months, MDP maintains its position as the second largest political party in Maldives.
EC's statistical report that was publicized last night shows that the political party with the most members is still the People's National Congress (PNC), with a total of 68,665 members. Five months ago, this number was at 68,968, with a drop in 303 members within the last six months.
The People's National Front (PNF), led by previous President Abdulla Yameen, saw an increase in 224 members. The party currently has 3,046 members, with the figure being 2,822 members five months ago.
