To promote sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture, greenhouses have been established across twelve islands in the northern region.

The Agribusiness Machine Grant scheme is targeted for agriculture activities and SMEs in 26 islands of HA, HDh and Sh atolls, where the Maldives Agribusiness Program (MAP) activities are carried out.

Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare said that trainings on how to grow cucumber, melon, chili, capsicum and other fruits and vegetables have been carried out now in 11 out of the 12 greenhouses. Greenhouse agriculture has now commenced in:

- HDh. Makunudhoo

- HDh. Neykurandhoo

- HDh. Nolhivaramfaru

- HDh. Vaikaradhoo

- HA. Kelaa

- HA. Uligan

- HA. Molhadhoo

- HA. Filladhoo

- Sh. Narudhoo

- Sh. Goidhoo

- Sh. Foakaidhoo

In addition to training and awareness programmes, the MAP project also provides financial assistance to those engaged in agriculture in the 26 islands of these three atolls.

In May last year, the ministry and SDFC signed an agreement on an MVR 15,188,700 machine grant to provide financial assistance.
