Permissible to dye hair black: Fatwa Council

The Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa has said that it is permissible to dye hair black.

The fatwa, approved in February and published yesterday, states that there are two viewpoints amongst Islamic scholars on the issue of dying hair black. Some maintain it is permissible, while others claim it is haram (prohibited).

The fatwa said that both are based on evidence, and are subject to the scholars' interpretation.

However, the fatwa goes on to say that the view that dying hair is permissible comes with relatively more evidence. Hence, the council's stance is that it is permissible.
