A man, arrested for attempting to steal a chocolate from a shop in Male', has been placed in remand in custody for 15 days.
The arrestee is a 59 year old from GDh. Gahdhoo.
The court order stated that there is some evidence to support the charges against the man. The court said that he is placed in remand in custody as he may pose a danger to society and the criminal procedures to hold a trial are met.
As per the court order, Police had attended the scene after receiving reports that Fantasy Store had held a man who had attempted to steal a chocolate. Once there, Fantasy Store's HR had met with police and shared footage caught on their CCTV cameras. The footage shows the man taking the chocolate, placing it in his pocket, and attempting to leave the shop.
According to the Police's incident report, when he was stopped and asked if he was stealing the chocolate, he had admitted to it, the court order said.
Criminal Court said that the man's records show that he has been arrested 29 times, of which 18 times he was held in custody. Past offences include theft, the court order said.
