A fire broke out in an apartment in Hulhumale' Phase 1 today, causing immense loss.

The fire incident occurred at Apartment 3 on the second floor of 'China Flat' 94, MNDF said.

Residents in the neighbourhood report that this is the third fire incident at that apartment, occupied by expatriates. They raise concerns that this poses a public safety risk.

MNDF confirmed that eleven expatriates live in the apartment where the incident occurred today.

No persons were injured in the incident, MNDF said, although major damage was caused to the apartment and goods in it.

Video footage circulating on social media shows flames pouring out of the window at the height of the fire.

Photos shared by MNDF show that mattresses on the bunk beds in the flat had also been destroyed in the fire, along with a number of other goods in the apartment. The heavy smoke resulting from the fire caused further damage.

Last Thursday, another major fire incident was reported at the Ensis warehouse in Hulhumale' Phase 1. While it took authorities hours to put out the fire, the place was damaged beyond use by the time the fire was controlled.
