Due to ongoing roadworks in relation to Velana International Airport's (VIA) new terminal, opening on 26th July 2025, some shifts to traffic flow have been announced.
This announcement came last night from MACL, VIA's parent company. These changes will persist from 12th July 2025 11:00pm until 21st July 2025 as per MACL's statement.
Due to these changes, the taxi queue in front of the airport entry will be shifted to the road between the motorcycle parking lot and the harbour. The distance to the taxi queue has further increased due to these changes and will only persist until 21st July.

Vehicles that are picking up and dropping off passengers to the airport will now have to use the new road that leads to the terminal, while the drop-off points remain unchanged.
MACL has stated that passengers can also use their bus system to get to the taxi queue.
They also said that vehicles traveling from the north end to the south end will have to take U-turns near the Police checkpost.
The final preparations are being made by MACL to open VIA's new terminal on the occasion of Maldives' 60th year of independence.
MACL's aim is to move all airline operations, international flights from Maldivian included, to the new terminal before this year's tourist season begins.
