Family Court releases photo of man failing to pay child support

Family Court has for the first time released the photograph of a man who has failed to pay child support.

In a social media post, the court said the move is part of measures aimed at holding accountable those who fail to meet court ordered financial obligations towards their children.

The first individual to have his photo published is Ahmed Ali, Male' registry number 2758.

A media official from the court said that only one person’s photograph has been released so far, and a decision has not yet been made on whether the photos of others in similar situations will also be published.

Lhaviyani Hinnavaru Magistrate Court was the first to publish the names of individuals who failed to pay child support, late last year. Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi Court has since followed suit.

Although Family Court decided in 2018 to publicly disclose the names of those who default on child support payments, the decision had not been implemented until now.

The court had previously stated that publishing such details was considered an optional enforcement measure.
