Police to question mother after drug exposure observed in newborn

Police have announced today that they are seeking to question a woman over her newborn child exhibiting signs of drug exposure shortly after birth.

Police issued a public summons for Aminath Shifza, 40, Ujala, S. Hithadhoo to present herself at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building on a specified date.

Police stated that she is being summoned for questioning in a case being investigated by the Crimes Against Children Department.

Media reports indicate that Shifza is being sought for questioning in this case relating to her newborn child showing signs of drug exposure.

In cases such as this, the children involved are usually taken into State care. There have been instances where the child has been given over to the care of family, if so requested.

It is not known whether Shifza's child is in State care, or under the care of another family member.

Shifza holds a prior record of drug abuse, as reported in Mihaaru News.
