The body of Abdu’Rahman Adam, a 65-year-old resident of AA. Maalhos who was brutally attacked and killed earlier this month, has been transported to Trivandrum, India, for a post-mortem examination.

Abdu’Rahman was discovered in critical condition by his wife, Nazima Ibrahim, at their home on the late night of July 12. Despite being rushed to the island’s health centre, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of the following morning.

According to police, the body was sent to India on Sunday to facilitate a detailed forensic investigation. Authorities have maintained a heavy presence around Mahiya, where the couple resided for over a week, sealing off the premises and surrounding area. However, no significant breakthroughs have yet been reported.

Investigators have collected fingerprints and footprints from all individuals who entered the residence following the incident. A limited number of CCTV cameras on the island were also reviewed, although it remains unclear what evidence, if any, has been retrieved.

Nazima’s mobile phone was seized last Thursday under a court order, but has since been returned to her. She is currently staying in Malé City. At the time of the incident, she and her husband were the only occupants of the home.

Maalhos, known for its low crime rate and close-knit community, has been left reeling from the tragedy. Many residents have expressed disbelief that someone from the island could be responsible. Speculation has emerged that the perpetrator may have arrived from another island under the cover of night.

The couple’s home is located on Huras Magu, near the beach, a location that, some believe, could have allowed an outsider to approach unnoticed.
