Man arrested over alleged sexual abuse of minor in a southern island

A 48-year-old man has been arrested and remanded in custody in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl on an island under the southern police jurisdiction.

A police media official said that the incident was reported on Wednesday and involved an individual in a position of trust. The suspect was taken into custody under a court order and presented before the court, where he was remanded pending trial.

Sources familiar with the case have indicated that the man is the victim’s uncle. According to initial reports, the child was taken out under the pretense of a casual outing, during which the alleged abuse occurred.

The case is currently under investigation by the island’s police station in coordination with the Family and Child Protection Department.
