Wall collapses in a Male' house, causing extensive damage

A wall of a Male' house located next to a building under construction collapsed today, causing extensive damage.

A wall of M. Thakandhooge collapsed while work was ongoing at adjacent M. Hawaii.

A resident of Thakandhooge told Mihaaru News that the wall that collapsed was very old. The wall was about eight feet high, and had shown signs of instability due to construction at the adjacent building. However, relevant authorities had failed to respond to multiple reports about the matter.

"We reported it multiple times. We even brought them here. I said even before that this day will come. Now that wall has finally collapsed. It happened around 5pm today," the resident said.

They said that the wall had collapsed when work had begun on constructing the boundary walls of M. Hawaii.

"Instead of building it brick by brick, they are pouring concrete into a mold. They are exerting pressure with a pump to ensure there are no air gaps. When they are filling with a pump, the ground will be vibrating. The wall collapsed while this was being done," they said.

They confirmed that no persons had been injured in the incident. However, the apartment that they reside in with family sustained damage, including broken windows and damage to household appliances.

They said that when the reports of the wall collapse were lodged, Male' City Council, STELCO staff and Police attended the scene.
