Parades and cultural performances were held at Republic Square today to mark Maldives' Independence Day, drawing large crowds to the capital.

Organized by the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, the event featured military displays by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), a cadet parade, and traditional performances by school students.

The program highlighted the nation’s journey to independence and its cultural heritage.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi currently on an official visit to the Maldives, attended the celebrations. Prime Minister Modi departed for the airport shortly after the event.

Independence Day festivities will continue tomorrow, with official events scheduled from 8:30 a.m., followed by an evening parade and a float procession later at night.
