Details of land leased in Male' to be made public within two months: Mayor Azim

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim said last night that details of all land plots leased in Male' will be made public within the next two months.

Azim said that no audit or land registry has been compiled in the 15 years since the establishment of the city council. He said the council is now working to rectify that by collecting and organizing lease information.

“Within the next two months, I will provide you with all the details of all the land leased in Male', including to whom, for what purpose, for what rent, for how long, and whether there is a CSR component,” Azim said.

The decision to disclose lease and tenant information comes after Galolhu North councilor Saif Fathih (Aikko) raised concerns over the lack of transparency regarding land allocations.

Azim also noted that some tenants have failed to pay rent for over a decade. In certain cases, outstanding electricity and water bills have reached as much as MVR 2.5 million, he said.
