President Muizzu welcomes New York Declaration on Palestinian peace process

The declaration is a strong call for sustainable international measures to address the humanitarian and economic toll of ongoing aggression against Palestine, and to ensure long-term peace, security, and stability in the region, President's Office said.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has welcomed the adoption of the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, affirming Maldives' unwavering support for Palestinian statehood.

In a statement delivered following the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, President Muizzu commended the outcome document which underscores international consensus on implementing the two-state solution.

The conference, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France under the auspices of the United Nations, marked a renewed global effort toward resolving the long-standing conflict.

Describing the declaration as a pivotal step, President Muizzu said it reflects the international community’s collective recognition of the Palestinian people's right to permanent sovereignty and statehood. He further noted that the declaration reinforces the global push to grant Palestine full membership within United Nations.

According to the President’s Office, the declaration is a strong call for sustainable international measures to address the humanitarian and economic toll of ongoing aggression against Palestine, and to ensure long-term peace, security, and stability in the region.

President Muizzu reiterated the Maldives’ firm commitment to supporting the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders and including East Jerusalem as outlined in international law and relevant UN resolutions.
