Bank of Maldives (BML) has increased the amount of USD available to individuals travelling abroad for medical treatment.
While the bank currently provides USD 500 for all overseas travelers, those seeking treatment overseas are now eligible for higher allocations depending on the nature of their medical support:
- USD 2,000 for patients under Aasandha coverage
- Up to USD 2,000 for those receiving NSPA assistance
- USD 1,000 for patients travelling without Aasandha or NSPA support
Those travelling abroad can purchase dollars by submitting the required documentation via BML's internet or mobile banking platforms.
For patients covered under Aasandha, copies of the patient’s and assistant’s tickets and passports, along with an Aasandha approval or recommendation letter must be submitted.
Those receiving support through NSPA must also provide ticket and passport copies for both the patient and assistant.
Patients travelling independently without AAsandha or NSPA assistance must submit a doctor’s letter recommending overseas treatment. If the letter does not include a diagnosis or medical history, a separate document containing that information is also required. Additionally, confirmation of the appointment, ticket, and passport copies must be provided.
